Bed Down with the Beantown Bombers
Don't be surprised if your young slugger gets carried away with admiration for his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. After all, the team has a history deeply seeded in proud tradition as it was one of the eight original American league franchises started in 1901. They became the dominant team of the early part of the 20th century winning the first World Series in 1903 defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Showing Boston Pride
Although your little slugger might carry a Red Sox player-signed glove, sport a named jersey or jacket, consider the ultimate in Red Sox admiration by stating your support loud and proud decorating a youngster's room in team colors of red, midnight blue and white. Choose from a variety of bedding items that include sheets, blankets and pillow cases. Don't overlook adding a bed skirt either. And, you can bathe behind a colorful Red Sox-themed bath curtain as well.
Nicknamed Shortened
Several teams prior to Boston adopting the name "Sox," had chosen the name "stockings," along with a color designation. The Red Sox, were, in fact, the Red Stockings in its first incarnation in the late 1800s during play in the original National Association of Professional Base Ball Players. However, the word "stockings" did not play easily in a newspaper headline. It was the print media that actually came up with the diminutive form, "Sox," that became the word of choice for both Boston and the other stockings team, the Chicago White Sox. The team is sometimes referred to as the "Bosox," or, in typical New England accent as the "Sawx."
Boston Emerged Victorious
Much of American sports is associated with legend and the Boston Red Sox have their share including the famed "Curse of the Bambinio." After Boston sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1919, they did not win another World Series until 2004.
