Pregnancy Week Nine

This week the baby grows another astounding inch in length. Their little arms and legs are fully movable. If you can see your doctor, you may hear their little heartbeat with a Doptone (Doppler) device this week. Hearing the heartbeat for the first time is an exciting event. It makes the pregnancy seem real (aside from the horrible pregnancy symptoms that may be plaguing you).

By this week, you may feel like sleeping all the time, especially if this is your first pregnancy. The placenta is in full production this week, your body is putting all the energy into this, to help maintain and grow the baby. Hang in there, second trimester brings relief the fatigue.

The pregnancy symptoms continue to manifest this week. You may think you just need to find a comfortable way to sleep while sitting on the toilet, that way you take care of two of the symptoms at once – fatigue and frequent urination. The breast may become more and tenderer and may even tingle. Many women find that even the bra touching the nipples is too much. A sport bra may help; make sure it is cotton, for comfort.

Have you gotten any larger clothes? If you have not you really should think about it. Maybe you have a friend that is your size and has maternity clothing you can borrow. Thrift stores sometimes sell maternity clothes, and there is always buying new clothes from your favorite shops. The key right now should be comfort. Buy and wear clothing that makes you comfortable. Later on, you will be glad for the comfort. Your feet will swell, and you may increase half a shoe size, maybe a whole shoe size. This is normal. Your feet above all else, needs to feel comfortable. Throw out any shoes that hurt, and go strictly for comfort at this point.
