All wines are not made from grapes. Wine can be made from any fruit able to produce juice. However, it is best to drink alternative wines (wines not made from grapes) quicker than you would tradition grape wines.
While grape wines can hold for years and years, wines made from other fruits have a much quicker shelf life. If you buy a non-grape wine, drink it within a few weeks of buying it to ensure quality and flavor.
While there are a few ways to judge the health of certain types of wine, the easiest way is to go for wines with tannins. Tannins are found in red wine and contain a lot of antioxidants. Popular red wines include Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec.
Similar to non-grape wines, the tannins in red wine eventually breakdown. So, if you are drinking wine for the tannins, make sure to buy wine that is only a few years old.
